André Leon Talley’s “Little Black Dress” exhibit at SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah
Little Black Dress, a major exhibit of this chic and classic wardrobe staple, designed by fashion’s top designers from 1920s to the present day, is on display at SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah through Dec. 16. Curated by Vogue Contributing Editor and SCAD Trustee Andre Leon Talley, the exhibition focuses on historic and contemporary examples of the fashion icon “the little black dress,” and reveals how it has been endlessly appropriated and translated. Featured garments include a Tom Ford's Fall/Winter 2011 frock, previously worn by Lady Gaga; a selection from Prabal Gurung's Fall 2011 collection, previously worn by Sarah Jessica Parker; and a Stella McCartney worn by Rihanna. Many other iconic pieces will be displayed, including those from Chanel, L'Wren Scott, Givenchy, Cushnie et Ochs, Yves Saint Laurent and more. www.scadmoa.org/
“Ghengis Khan” exhibit at Fernbank Museum of Natural History
The special exhibition Genghis Khan invades Atlanta through January 21, taking visitors on an unforgettable journey into Khan's legendary empire. This major exhibition includes the largest touring collection of 13th-century Mongolian artifacts ever assembled: more than 200 rare, authentic relics from the conqueror's reign offer visitors a glimpse of historic gold jewelry, ceramics, coins, armor, weaponry, silk robes, costumes, religious relics, a "murdered" mummy, and more. Cirque du Soleil’s “Totem” at Atlantic Station

Yinka Shonibare Exhibit at SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah
SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah, presents "Addio del Passato," an exhibition of new works by artist Yinka Shonibare. The exhibition features photographs from Shonibare’s allegorical "Fake Death Pictures" series, sculptures, and the film "Addio Del Passato" (“So Closes My Sad Story”) that collectively explore themes of desire, love, repression and power. These works weave together conceptual impressions of colonialism using a theatrical vocabulary and visual imagery that speak to history through the lens of the present. Through Jan. 27. Brian Dettmer Show “Elemental” at MOCA-GA
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA) announces the final installment in its 2011/2012 Working Artist Project exhibitions – Brian Dettmer: Elemental, through Jan. 5. Atlanta artist Dettmer is known for his intricate book sculptures and other works with analog media. MoMA’s “Modern Moments” exhibit at The High Museum
Experience 100 years of radical artistic developments reflected by artworks drawn from the extraordinary collections of MoMA. The exhibition includes more than 130 works of painting, sculpture, graphic design, film and video and installation art by such luminaries as Matisse, Dali, O’Keeffe, and Koons. Gala Opening and Preview of MODA’s “The South’s Next Wave” Design Exhibit
Part exhibition, part competition; this show will pair top Atlanta interior designers with the top object designers to create, stunning artistic vignettes throughout the museum. Participants represent a who’s who of Atlanta’s design community in the fields of fashion, art, interior design, etc. The event is curated by David Goodrowe and Tim Hobby, co-founders of Aesthetic Identity Design firm Goodrowe | Hobby. Veteran's Day Parade Downtown and the Freedom Ball at Georgia Aquarium
The annual Georgia Veteran's Day Parade returns with a new prade route that will go straight down Baker Street towards Centennial Olympic Park, The World of Coca-Cola and Georgia Aquarium. The parade is free and open to the public and starts at 11AM. Enjoy a special demo by the U.S. Army's Silver Wings Parachute Team at the conclusion of the parade at approximately 12:30PM. Then stay for a day at the Georgia Aquarium, where all friends and family of military vets (with valid I.D.) will receive 20% of general admission. The Aquarium will also host the black-tie Freedom Ball vor vets that night in the Oceans Ballroom with motivational speakers, food by Wolfgang Puck catering and dancing to a swing band. Neutra Architecture Lecture Sponsored by Museum of Design Atlanta
Neutra Architecture: the View from Inside will be presented by Dion Neutra, son of Viennese-born architect Richard J. Neutra, who rose to prominence in 1929 with his visionary design of the Lovell “Health House.” Richard Neutra quickly became one of the giants of the modernist architectural movement.
